Apple iWatch Latest News: Apple’s Smartwatch to Come With Facebook, Twitter, BMW, Other Apps
If a recent report is to be believed, the Apple Watch will be loaded with different apps when the Apple CEO Tim Cook unveils the company's maiden wearable device as the 'Spring Forward' event on Monday, March 9. According to Bloomberg, Apple has been secretly allowing companies like Facebook, Pinterest, BMW and United Airlines to develop third-party apps for the device long before its launch.
According to IB Times, apart from the companies mentioned above, several others like Twitter and Instagram are also developing social media apps for the Cupertino-based tech giant's first smartwatch. In addition, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. is also reported to be developing an app that will be able to unlock hotel room doors, while ESPN is developing its own app for notifying games.
Apart from these, Apple has 380,000 members of its developer program, who may also create apps via its WatchKit tools.
It is worth mentioning that the Apple Watch is the first new product category developed by Apple since Cook took over as the company's CEO in 2011. According to analysts, the Apple Watch will be a hit and predict that it will achieve sales of anything between 8 million and 30 million in its first year of its launch alone.
Meanwhile, AllThingsD reports that contrary to the estimates of the analysts, who had estimated that the iPad would sell approximately 3.3 million units in 2010, but the device actually sold 14.8 million units in its first year of its launch.
The Apple Watch will be priced starting at $349 for the Sports model, while the 18-karat gold model is likely to have a start price anywhere between $5,000 and $10,000. The precise pricing of the Apple Watch is likely to be announced at the Spring Forward press event March 9 at the Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco.
