Apple iPhone 7 Specs Rumors: JP Morgan Analyst Hints Apple Sticks with LCD Panels on iPhones
Although Apple has embraced OLED technology for its upcoming Apple Watch, the Cupertino-based tech titan is unlikely to adopt this display technology for its flagships smartphones. An analyst has claimed that Apple will continue with the present LCD panels when it launches the next smartphone, which has already been dubbed by many as the "iPhone 7."
IB Times quotes Narci Chang, an analyst with JP Morgan Chase and CoJapan, saying that having recently received a billion-dollar prepayment from Apple, Hapan Display may possibly possess the capacity to produce as many as 100 million 5-inch LTPS LCD panels annually. According to Apple Insider, Chang is also of the view that its deal with Japan Display implies that Apple is still not yet prepared to substitute LCD technology for OLED, and would like to carry on with the conventional panels for the iPhone 7.
Earlier this month, Japan Display disclosed its plans to set up a new $1.4 billion display plant in central Japan. In fact, it is said that Apple has invested in the upcoming plant to secure supplies of superior LCD panels for its smartphone.
Apple Insider further reported that when Apple had opposed OLED technology for iPhone screens publicly and so when the tech giant decided to use it for the Apple Watch, many industry observers were surprised. In fact, these industry observers had expected Apple to use LCD screens for the smartwatch as well too.
A recent report by Taiwan's DigiTimes said on Wednesday that Apple is preparing to launch three new iPhone models in the second half of 2015. It also claimed that the first and second new models for this year's iPhone will be the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, while the third new model of Apple will possibly be dubbed the iPhone 6c.
In addition, DigiTimes claimed that Japan Display, LG Display and Sharp will be produce the display panels featuring Corning Gorilla Glass.
