Apple iPhone 6 Specs, Features Review: What's Changed Since iPhone 5?

For those that don't know, the iPhone 6 and even larger iPhone 6 Plus are Apple's reaction to an age of ever increasing phone screens. However, some techies are looking to find out exactly what's encased inside its shell.

What's new and good?

  • The new ergonomic thin design of the iPhone 6, with its smooth rounded edges has made the phone much more one handed use friendly.
  • A crisp new 4.7 inch screen now graces the phone, with that 326 PPI, it is hard to deny the display is gorgeous.
  • 'Reachability' feature that pulls down the top of apps to allow easier reach to buttons higher up.
  • A huge 128 GB of internal storage, you'll never have to worry about running out of space again.
  • The power/lock button has migrated to the top right of the phone.
  • That new 8 MP camera will satisfy and photography and videographer buff. The shutter is extreme fast, and combined with the powerful image processing unit it can handle practically anything thrown at it.
  • Apple's payment system 'Apple Pay' works very smoothly.
  • The bigger 1810 mAh battery.

What's the same?

  • The user interface has stayed relatively the same.
  • Audio quality is still average.
  • Front facing camera is still at a meagre 1.2 MP.
  • No expandable memory.

What's bad?

  • Due to the wonderful thin design, the battery life is still has not improved drastically and heavy use will quickly deplete it.
  • Also because of the thin design, the speaker has been placed in an awkward position and can get easily blocked.
  • No 4k Video.

Conclusion

Overall the iPhone 6 has made some definite leaps forward, but mainly in the hardware department. In terms of usability, software and UI the platform has remained relatively unchanged. If previously you were an iPhone user that yearned for a bigger screen, a thinner phone, a faster and better camera, access to an easier way to pay and enough storage space to hoard a warehouse worth of movies and pictures around in your pocket, then the iPhone 6 may just be for you.

If not, then you may want to pass on this one. It is definitely a luxury upgrade, rather than a necessary one.
