Apple iOS 8 News: Apple Swift 1.2 and Apple iOS 8 Update to Feature Xcode 6.3 Beta

In addition to their iOS 8 update, Apple beta additionally released its newest version of the vastly popular Swift programming language in the latest Xcode update.

Developers received an upgrade of Apple's Swift programming language, which features an upgraded compiler and other new features.

The testing version of Xcode 6.3 included the newest Swift update, which has seen rapid development since being announced on June 2014 at WWDC.

Swift was originally released as part of Xcode 6.0 as version 1.0, almost immediately an update was released in September of the same year with and updated 1.1 version.

Xcode is considered a sounder solution than Objective-C, the newly released Swift 1.2 promotes simpler creation of code for Objective-C libraries.

According to the Apple website, there is a fresh set data structure and type interference for closures and full beta release notes for Xcode 6.3.

Swift has experienced overwhelming acceptance by programmers and developers. The language is considered extremely popular according to GitHub that ranks programming languages.

Stephen O'Grady, of Redmonk, addressed the growing popularity in January. "The growth that Swift experienced is essentially unprecedented in the history of these rankings. Swift has gone from our 68th ranked language during Q3 to number 22 this quarter, a jump of 46 spots ... Given this dramatic ascension, it seems reasonable to expect that the Q3 rankings this year will see Swift as a Top 20 language," wrote O'Grady.

Also updated in the programming language are changes to strengthen the consistency of Swift and fix some behavior errors.

The new compiler features incremental builds and improves on building times and provides stability and diagnostic capabilities.

The language will also provide for faster executions to debug builds binaries. The compiler crashes will also come to an end as stability improvements have been added.
