Apple AirPods News, Update & Rumors: Apple Develops Own Bluetooth-like Technology?
The news and rumors about the AirPods, the design notwithstanding, seems to suggest that Apple is taking the wireless earphones to the next level.
In fact, respected KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that Apple might go even one step further and develop its own technology to rival Bluetooth.
He wrote in new research notes, "Apple will likely have its own-designed Bluetooth-like communication chip and launch own-brand Bluetooth headphones targeting the high-end market, with Beats positioned in the midrange market."
Going forward, the next generation of iPhones would be using the AirPods, which would make the decision by Apple to ditch the 3.5mm headphone jack on the iPhone 7 very significant as the company is forcing everybody to go wireless.
He said that by necessity, Apple will have to ditch Bluetooth and develop its own technology for wireless audio for optimized performance, and also because of the many practical uses of the chip apart from just the mobile devices.
The news and rumors surrounding the AirPods started when right after it was speculated that the iPhone7 wont' feature the ubiquitous headphone jack. Now, with the launch of the flagship, the picture has become quite clearer.
The AirPods have the carrying case, which consumers can't do without because they charge the audio device. The AirPods is good for five hours of use, while the carrying case will be good for one day and one hour. But they will set buyers back $229.
Apple's Jony Ive told The Verge, "We're just at the beginning of a truly wireless future that we've been working towards for many years."
Watch out for more news and rumors on the AirPods which will be published here when they come along.
