Anthony Johnson News: UFC Contender Agrees to Counseling Following Latest Incident

Following his distasteful social media rant involving a woman at a gym, UFC light heavyweight contender Anthony "Rumble" Johnson has agreed to attend counseling sessions and donate to a Florida-based women's charity, MMA Junkie reports.

"Following a thorough investigation by a third-party law firm, UFC is extremely disappointed with Anthony Johnson's recent actions, as the organization does not tolerate behavior of this nature from any athletes under contract with the UFC," the promotion's statement read.

"Johnson personally apologized to the woman he verbally offended at a Florida gym last week and for the insensitive comments he made on social media afterwards. The woman accepted Johnson's apology and indicated a desire to put this unfortunate matter behind them. In order to ensure these situations do not happen in the future, Johnson has agreed to participate in counseling and UFC will support him through this process. Johnson has also agreed to make a donation to a Florida-based women's charity."

Johnson has had a history with allegations of domestic abuse. As noted by MMA Junkie, in 2010, he pleaded no contest to domestic violence and two other misdemeanor charges, and was subsequently sentenced to three years probation after he allegedly broke into his ex-girlfriend's house and dragged her up a flight of stairs. As pointed out by MMA Junkie, Johnson claimed he acted in self-defense.

The UFC also suspended "Rumble" in 2014 and likewise opened an investigation into his behavior after the mother of his child obtained an order of protection against Johnson and alleged threats and abuse. That investigation came to a close after the woman withdrew he order and a judge dismissed the case.

Another incident happened before Johnson April 2014 return to the UFC, when a supposed ex-girlfriend of the light heavyweight declined to pursue charges, but wanted her report to remain public record.

As it stands, Johnson (19-5) is set to fight Jimi Manuwa on Sept. 5 at UFC 191.
