'Ant-Man' News: Peyton Reed Speaks On Wasp Spin-Off Film
The end of 'Ant-Man' hinted at actress Evangeline Lilly's character Hope van Dyne becoming apart of the vast Marvel superhero cast. This revelation has led some to believe that there is no room for a Hope van Dyne spin-off film, however director Peyton Reed doesn't want spectators to jump the gun just yet.
Evangeline is unbelievable in the movie, and a large part of [it] really is her journey as a character," Reed tells EW. "One of the fun things when you see the movie is, there's an issue at hand. Hank has a big problem and he recruits Scott Lang [a.k.a. the new Ant-Man, played by Paul Rudd] to take care of it. But the solution has been there under his nose the entire time, and it's his daughter. He can't really see it. But it's really sort of crucial to the DNA of the story - it's Hope's story as well."
In the comics, Hope's mother, Janet van Dyne is the original Wasp character, alongside her husband, Hank Pym as Ant-Man. The fact that Janet wasn't present in the film led speculators to believe Hope would follow suit and become the next iteration of the Wasp.
Lilly has more than expressed interest in the idea, but also stated that she believes in the vision that Marvel is trying to paint.
"Anything Marvel wants me to do, I'll do," she says. "They're so fantastic to work for and they're such incredibly smart filmmakers. I would love to be a part of any sequel, or anything. I'm there."
For the possibility of it actually happening, Reed simply says that it's all up to Kevin Feige at this point.
