'Ant-Man' Movie Spoilers, News: Costume Designers Dish Shrink Suit Details
Marvel films have all classically stretched our imaginations to know bounds, but come later this summer they'll have to push the envelope to really sell the Ant-Man character.
As most already know, the character possesses a shrinking suit that allows him to get to size of an insect. Fans have already been able to see the suit's design from the trailers, and while it is very intricate and stays fairy accurate to the comic book, there's still a lot we don't know about it.
Thanks to a recent interview with Empire Magazine, costume designers Sammy Sheldon and Ivo Coveney gives us some in depth details.
Starting off, the two both state that Scott Lang will require the suit in the film to shrink and explain why:
"When you shrink, the molecules in the air are too big for your lungs. He has to be fully contained or he'd die."
This is a important deviation from the comics, as the character has been seen to shrink without the use of the suit.
"There's still no word on whether or not Pym Particles are going to make it into Ant-Man, but the magazine notes that "mysterious chemicals" are sent around Scott's body via tubing. "We had a long discussion about the two cables going into his helmet," Coveney reveals. "They're a massive weakness - Yellowjacket could just rip them off and he's dead. But, in the end, it just looks cooler with them on." On this subject, Sheldon adds: "The fact that he's shrinking is enough to get away with anything else, really!" writes CBM.
'Ant-Man' hits theaters on July 17.
