'Ant-Man 2' Spoilers & Plot Rumors: Will Marvel Give the Green Light to ‘Ant-Man’ Sequel?

The dismal performance of Marvel's latest flick 'Ant-Man' has given rise to questions as to whether the fans will still like to see actor Paul Rudd donning the costume in yet another standalone film.

A report in Christian Today states that as of July 21, 'Ant-Man,' directed by Peyton Reed, reportedly earned $63.6 million in North American countries, while its opening day sales touched just $23.4 million, which is considered to be the second-lowest opening day box-office collection among all Marvel films, after the 2008 flick, 'The Incredible Hulk.'

Nevertheless, Reed still hopes that a sequel for the 'Ant-Man' film would still be considered, though Marvel is yet to announce whether or not there will be an 'Ant-Man 2.'

Talking to the Entertainment Weekly during the film's release recently, Reed acknowledged that if the need arises, he would be very keen to return to the 'Ant-Man' franchise.

The director told the publication, "I'd love the chance to do a second movie and further the voyage of these characters and do another 'Ant-Man' adventure where it's not an origins story and we're free to just take those characters and go wherever we want to go."

Reed further said that there are many questions regarding some of the characters of 'Ant-Man,' which have been left unanswered. According to the director, still there are plenty lot of details in the story that are yet to be told.

According to the report, one of the things that fans of the Marvel Comics would like to see in an 'Ant-Man' sequel is the progression of the character Hope Van Dyne, portrayed by Evangeline Lilly. The character was seen donning the costume of Wasp toward the end of 'Ant-Man.' In fact, Wasp is one of the fan-favorite characters from Marvel Comics and, consequently, avid Marvel fans are also hoping to see the original Wasp in the next film, which actually is Hope's mother Janet.

While Marvel is yet to make an official announcement regarding its plans for 'Ant-Man 2,' Reed is hoping that the studio executives will start discussing the issue soon.

Reed said, "In the best case scenario, if we're lucky enough to actually have serious conversations about it, I think everybody would be inclined to make it happen as soon as possible."
