Angelina Jolie News: Director Says She Never Loved Acting, Talks ‘By The Sea’
Academy Award winning actress and director Anjelina Jolie recently talked about shooting her upcoming directorial venture 'By The Sea' with husband Brad Pitt. According to the actress, 'By The Sea' was the "hardest film" she directed so far, but quickly added that she was happy to appreciate that directing movies made her happier compared to acting in them.
According to IB Times, Jolie and Pitt worked together for the last time in the 2005 romantic comedy 'Mr. and Mrs. Smith,' which holds a special place in both the actors lives, as they came together on its sets and started living together following its release. While their fans loved them in 'Mr. and Mrs. Smith,' they did not get another opportunity to share the screen after that movie.
After several years, Jolie and Pitt are now ready to recreate the magic in Jolie's fourth directorial venture titled 'By The Sea,' where the two portray an estranged couple. According to Jolie, it was very difficult to act in as well as direct the movie.
In a recent interview with Director's Guild of America, Jolie said, "I'd be directing myself and [Brad] in a scene where we're having a fight, and I'd be pulling out the parts [of him] that have an aggression toward me or when you're frustrated with each other - it was very heavy."
The actress added, "We kept joking that all of the crew felt like they were living in a house where the parents were fighting and you don't know where to stand or where to look." However, the Academy Award winning actress said she is proud of herself to "for being brave enough" to try acting in this kind of movie. She further told the publication that she loves being a director more than an actor and was really surprised to make this discovery about her.
Jolie said, "I love coming to work in the morning. What I realized is that I never loved acting. I don't love being in the hair and makeup chair," adding that she is "much happier directing."
'By The Sea' will hit the theaters on Nov. 13.
