Having completed her directorial venture 'By The Sea,' the actress is now set to produce an animated movie titled 'The Breadwinner,' which is based on the true story of a young Afghan girl.

Quoting The Hollywood Reporter, IB Times reports that 'The Breadwinner,' an adaptation Deborah Ellis' young adult novel of the same name, narrates the story of a young girl named Parvana, who lives in the reign of Taliban in Afghanistan. Her life begins to fester when her father is wrongly imprisoned. Parvana, however, acts bravely and disguises herself as a boy to become her family's breadwinner.

In a statement, Jolie recently said, "Millions of young girls like Parvana are growing up today under oppression or conflict and helping their families to survive in those conditions. This story is a reminder of the immense value of their contribution."

The actress added, "I am delighted to be working with a talented team of artists who I know will do justice to the richness, creativity and strength of Afghan culture and to little girls like Parvana."

The upcoming movie will be directed by Irish animator and filmmaker Nora Twomey, who is also a partner in Cartoon Saloon, an Irish animation studio and production company that will take up the project.

The screenplay for 'The Breadwinner' will be penned by Anita Doron, a Ukrainian/ Canadian film director, who is best known for her work in the films, 'The End of Silence' and 'The Lesser Blessed.'

Apart from telling the story of Parvana, 'The Breadwinner' will focus on showing the rich culture, history and natural beauty of Afghanistan. In addition to the English language, 'The Breadwinner' will also be released in Dari, an official language of Afghanistan. The production of the movie will commence sometime in August, and will wrap up in early 2017.

In related news, 'The Breadwinner' was published by Groundwood Books in 2000, and has won several awards, including the Peter Pan Prize and the Middle East Book Award. Currently, Jolie is busy with the shooting of the Netflix film, 'First They Killed My Father,' in Cambodia.
