Android Pay App News: Google Announces Plans to Develop Mobile Payment System
Google vice-president (Android, Chrome, and Google Apps) Sundar Pichai confirmed at the opening day of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015 on Monday that his company is currently developing a new mobile payment system dubbed as 'Android Pay', according to Forbes.
According to the report, Pichai said that the payment system would not be a new venture for the company, but just an 'API' layer that would secure payments made online as well as physical stores using devices running with Android.
Delivering a keynote address at the occasion, Pichai said, "We are doing it in a way in which anybody else can build a payments service on top of Android," adding, "So, in places like China and Africa we hope that people will use Android Pay to build innovative services."
In addition, Pichai claimed that Android Pay will commence working with NFC-capable registers and, in due course, it would take in biometric sensors in due course. There are speculations that the Android Pay would be the same as working integral fingerprint scanners present in Samsung Galaxy smartphone product line. It would work in the same manner as the security feature in Apple Pay.
In fact, Apple Pay too has been employing the Touch ID fingerprints sensors for further secured transactions. Pichai, however, clarified some doubts stating that Google does not have intentions for a face-off with Samsung Pay.
Recently, Samsung introduced the Samsung Pay, a biometric enabled secure payment mobile system, which would be present in the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. With Samsung Pay, the South Korean tech firm will now be in direct competition with Apple Pay. Now, Google is expected to work in relation to Samsung's process to seek probable collaboration between Android and Samsung Pay.
