Android N News: New OS Set To Be Named After The Nutella?

Is the new Android N going to be named after the Nutella?

At least that's what the news article from The Verge seemed to suggest. Of course, it was also based on the sudden obsession by Hiroshi Lockheimer, senior vice president for Android, over the tasty hazelnut treat.

On June 7, Lockheimer shared a photo of a restaurant menu as he said, "There's one specific dish on this menu that I'm keenly interested in." One item in the menu read, "Nutella Pizzetta."

In another post, Lockheimer again showed a bunch of tiles on his computers, but the search engine at the back, barely seen if one doesn't know what to look for, shows a search for Nutella.

In fact, user Eric Lin pointed out that Hiroshi Lockheimer has been referencing Nutella in his recent posts. He tweeted, "This is 3rd tweet with a Nutella reference. Either that's the N name or @lockheimer has us on a crazy goose chase."

To which, Lockheimer responded, "I just like Nutella!"

Previous news reports have said that Google will solicit contributions for the name of the Android N. After which, it will pick the most creative one, or it won't as the tech giant reserves the right to finally decide on the name.

Unfortunately, there won't be any price money if indeed a suggestion from Android users is picked up by Google.

In other news, The Next Web shared a rather funny news about Android N's new name.

"There's a little easter egg on the latest developer preview version of Android N which follows the naming scheme of exactly what you'd expect when you let the internet help you name stuff," it said. "Introducing: Android Namey McNameface."
