Google's latest operating system Android Marshmallow rolls out in September 2015.

Since the Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 update was announced in the middle of last year, details of the features have trickled down on various news sites. But what can users expect when they do upgrade to the new OS?

First the Homescreen: it's basically the same as for users of Lollipop. However, the App Drawer has several changes since the scrolling list is now vertical in contrast to the horizontal list in the Lollipop. There's a new scrubber bar when you scroll through the list.

What this change means is you can easily swipe until the end of the apps list. The most frequently used apps will eventually appear at the top of the app drawer, or you can easily search for the app on the search bar.

Doze is also used in the update, much more so than in previous iterations, to save your battery. According to some news reports, the Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 update will allow you to extend your battery life to more than one week with this app.

Then there's the System UI Tuner, which basically allows the user to make some changes in the user interface, such as removing toggles or customizing the Quick Settings, or rearranging the icons on the status bar.

One new thing that comes with the Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 update is the Voice API and Assist API, which gives third-party apps access to the voice command functionality and integrate them into their own system. Simply put, apps other than those made by Google can now talk back (of course, the system is still very much in the beginning stage).

Finally, the Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 update features 200 new emojis.

"These are default Android emoji and should be compatible with any keyboard. A lot of the emoji that were added have been in use on iOS and Windows 10 for some time, but others are new," said Android Pit. "The list of new emoji includes the fabled unicorn, the tasty taco and the hungry squirrel."

Watch out for more news about the Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 update which will be revealed here when the features and details, as well as which phone receives the latest upgrade, become available.
