Android M Features & Release Date Rumors: What You Should Know About the Upcoming Android Version

Much to the delight of its users, search engine giant Google confirmed that it has been working on developing a latest operating system dubbed as Android M at the recently concluded I/O conference. It is believed that the Android M will be a smaller OS upgrade compared to its predecessor Android Lollipop, Google has announced that it will incorporate additional features that would enhance the functionality as well as target security for mobile devices.

Latin Post reports the upcoming Android M will incorporate a feature very similar to the keychain in Apple's iOS and OS X. The feature, called the "Smart Locked Passwords," will allow the log in details entered by users on their Chrome and Google Apps and can be read in other Android devices.

Currently, this feature is still in development stage and, hence, it can be accessed by just a few applications. However, Google is already working on increasing the number of apps for the functionality.

At the same time, Google is also dealing with the problems related to expandable storage via its Android M update. As an assortment of smartphones keep coming out in the market having huge storage space, some users may still feel limited and lacking in space.

According to Sam Mobile, handsets like the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge are among the latest to join the non-expandable storage space revolution. Nevertheless, Google has discovered a solution to that problem by introducing a new technology that will enable the upcoming OS to make use of an SD card.

In this case, the device will treat the expandable memory card akin to an additional internal storage and users will be able to store apps on it, thereby saving space on the actual memory area of their mobile phones.

Availability of this new feature will allow low-end Android phones having limited storage space to find a way to increase its memory and add more applications and files on it.

In the meantime, the Mountain View, California-based tech titan may possibly also reinstate a "multi-window" feature, which was originally seen in the Samsung Galaxy Note II. Another report by Sam Mobile states that though Google did not officially announce the feature in the I/O conference, some observers noticed a preview of the build on Google's Nexus devices.

As of now, the preview is still in an experimental stage; addition of a multi-window feature will be useful for users who have been using their smartphones as an actual replacement for their laptops and tablets.

Google is expected to release Android M sometime later in 2015.
