Android Lollipop 5.0 Update News: Google Releases Android OS Distribution Chart, Lollipop Omitted from Figures List
Google has officially released its Android OS distribution numbers for a 7-day period that ended on December 1, revealing that Jelly Bean is still on top, but Lollipop's numbers were noticeably missing from the report.
However, despite most devices still running on Jelly Bean, the data that Google has released revealed that Android 4.4 KitKat is steadily rising, with a total share of 33.9 percent.
Jelly Bean, on the other hand, is still strong with a 48.7 distribution percentage. Its figure, however, has dropped 2.2 percent from last month's 50.9 percent.
In December, Google announced that there were 30.2 percent of devices running on KitKat, which means that it made a 3.7 jump in just a month.
The data also showed the distribution figures of other versions of Android, including Gingerbread, Ice Cream Sandwich and Froyo, which are 9.1 percent, 7.8 percent and 0.5 percent, respectively.
Missing from the list of figures were all the Android iterations before Froyo, as well as the tablet-only precursor to Ice Cream Sandwich.
Meanwhile, Lollipop, which is the latest version of Android released along with the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 in October, was nowhere to be seen on the distribution chart, which was gathered more than a week ago.
They did not include the versions that had less that 0.1 percent distribution in the report, which meant that Lollipop may have less than 0.1 percent distribution, or Google is just withholding specific information about its latest version.
Google further added that the data was gathered from the new Google Play Store app "which supports Android 2.2 and above, devices running older versions are not included."
In addition, Google revealed that in August, 2013, "versions older than Android 2.2 accounted for about 1 percent of devices that checked in to Google servers."
