Android 5.1 Lollipop Update: Google Play Edition of HTC One M7 Gets Latest OS Upgrade

Throughout the handset community, people are scrambling to get the latest update from Android. Lollipop 5.0 is slowly making its way through different phone carriers and phones, and the next update, the Android 5.1, will start coming soon to many services that were the first to receive the 5.0 update.

In a response to a fan's tweet, Vice President of Product Management Mo Versi said via Twitter that only the Google Play Edition (GPE) of the HTC One M7 will receive the 5.1 update. Those who have a regular One M7 will be left in the dust as Versi said that all updates for that phone are complete. The 5.1 update for the GPE version is set for an early April release.

The HTC One M7 went through a lot of updates. Those updates include Android 4.1.2, Android 4.2.2, Android 4.3, Android 4.4.2, Android 4.4.3 and finally the Android 5.0. Spanning two years, the M7 has had a long and outstanding run as a handset.

This week has been a big one for HTC as they also announced that its Uh Oh Protection Plan would launch side by side with the highly anticipated HTC One M9 on April 10th. According to Upleaks, the M9+ should be coming out within a month or two as well.

Android is looking to improve upon its already popular 5.0 update. The 5.1 update will support multiple SIM cards, Device Protection and high definition (HD) voice. Consumers also get Wi-Fi and Bluetooth shortcuts in Quick Settings, according to Android Pit.

With the April release for the Google Play Edition of the HTC One M7, users can enjoy one last update from one of the best phones the company has ever made.
