Android 5.0 Lollipop Update: Sony Xperia Z Family Receives Google's New OS

Google's latest update, the Android 5.0 Lollipop, is well under way and rolled out for many North American phone carriers such as Sprint and Verizon. With other devices receiving the 5.1 update, Sony announced today that they will be joining the Lollipop family with their Xperia Z3 group being the first to get the update.

Android 5.0 Lollipop will be available for Sony's Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact. The update will first be released in Baltic and Nordic Europe, slowly making its way across the globe in the weeks to come.

According to the official Sony blog, more Xperia Z Series products will receive the update in around two weeks' time. Sony announced that they have blended Google's Lollipop and mixed in a few new features of their own.

The look of the new update is still fresh and clean like Lollipop, but it also feels very minimalistic, something that Sony is known for. The notifications and lock screen are even more customizable, making it so users see what they want to see on their lock screen rather than the other way around.

Now, users can have multiple profiles on their Xperia Z3 phones. With this new feature, users can be even more organized as the profiles can be set up for personal, work or guest use. The Android for Work will also be available with the Android 5.0 Lollipop update. This allows users to have phones ready for work. The Sony blog stated, "With waterproof form factors, great battery life and productivity features, they will now also be a part of the Android for Work ecosystem."

Sony also announced that applications can be stored from internal memory to an SD card. This allows for better storage and customization for Sony devices.

Users and the company alike are eager for the Android 5.0 Lollipop update to be available to all of their latest devices.
