Thanks to software developers, HTC One M8 Google Play Edition users will now be able to get the Android 5.0.1 SkyDragon Custom ROM update for their handsets.

The HTC One M7 and M8 handsets have received Google's latest Android 5.0.1 Lollipop operating system, while all other phones and variations have no choice but to wait for the update to arrive. Thanks to customization of developers, however, owners of HTC One M8 GPE phones will be able to get the update early via the SkyDragon ROM.

The Android 5.0.1 SkyDragon Custom ROM is built from Stock and is 100 percent free, clean, and ready to use. It also has a Busy Box pre-rooted and installed, ported to the Aroma Installer and also comes with optional apps and choices of customization when installing.

In-depth instructions to install and update the OS are available on sites such as Tech Beast, International Business Times, Team Android and more, and are easy for users to follow. Users should remember though that the SkyDragon ROM is a custom ROM and is not an official release by HTC.

According to the notes, it is important to remember that the update is only for the HTC One M8 GPE. The phone should come with over 60 percent of battery life and it is important to back up all SMS messages, call logs, contacts, media, Nandroid and more before installing. On that note, a Titanium Backup is good for the apps, system data and other important content.

When everything is set, users can go ahead and download the Android 5.0.1 SkyDragon ROM and then connect their phones to their computers to move the file to the SD card of the phone. The phone then needs to be booted into the bootloader mode by pressing the Power and Volume Up or Down button, and then enter Recovery mode in order to wipe all the data on the phone.

All that's needed is to install the new SkyDragon ROM and follow the instructions provided by the Aroma installer. Once done, reboot the phone, follow the setup wizard and finally, users can try out their new Android 5.0.1 thanks to the SkyDragon Custom ROM.
