Anderson Silva Steroid Use News: 'The Spider' to Reportedly Admit to ‘Therapeutic’ PED Use

After initially denying any wrongdoing following his multiple positive testing for PEDs and other banned substances, the UFC website reported that Anderson Silva will admit to using "several performance enhancing substances," which helped aid his recovery from a severely broken leg.

As MMA Weekly points out, the UFC report cites Brazilian media outlet UOL as its source.

According to the report, when they face the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) at the still unscheduled disciplinary hearing in March, Silva's camp will insist that his use of performing enhancing drugs wasn't intended to gain an advantage over an opponent, but to help his recovery from the gruesome injury he suffered in a loss against UFC Middleweight champion Chris Weidman back in December 2013.

The former champion's lawyers also plan to argue that the traces of substances found in Silva's system were minimal, which meant no advantage was had when the Brazilian beat Nick Diaz during their UFC 183 bout.

The NSAC has placed Silva on a temporary suspension after testing positive for anabolic steroids Drostanolone and Androstane on January 9, then again for Dostanolone after a January 31 test.

The former pound-for-pound greatest fighter in the world also tested positive for Oxazepam"”an anxiety medication, as well as Temazepam, which is commonly used to treat sleep deprivation.

For using Oxazepam and Temazepam, the UFC report says that Silva will claim that they were physician-prescribed drugs, which were intended to treat back spasms and muscle pain that he endured last November.

While the anti-anxiety medications are not banned, Silva failed to disclose them on his pre-fight medical questionnaire.

Following the backlash of having multiple fighters test for PEDs, as well as various banned substances just this year, the UFC reportedly subjected all fighters competing in the recently concluded UFC 184 to drug testing"”the first time the organization has done so.
