Anderson Silva Steroid Use News: 'The Spider' Suspended Temporarily by Nevada Athletic Commission
Even for casual MMA fans, it's no secret that former UFC Middleweight champion Anderson Silva's interviews are a bit of a challenge to fully decipher. Over the past weekend, reports coming out of Brazil surfaced stating that the Brazilian legend would face the Nevada Athletic Commission and admit to therapeutic use of performance enhancing substances that he tested positive for.
Now, in a video from TMZ Sports, Silva has reverted to being confused by the whole matter.
"I am surprised. My manager call me and say Anderson, you have the problem because you go to the test for the commission, it's bad. I don't know what happened," Silva said.
In an out-of-competition test conducted on Jan. 9, Silva tested positive for banned anabolic steroids Drostanolone and Andorstane. He passed a succeeding test after his UFC 183 fight with Nick Diaz, but failed another test on Jan. 31, in which he tested positive for Drostanolone again, along with a couple of anti-anxiety medications.
That led to a temporary suspension levied by the Nevada Athletic Commission, and a still unscheduled hearing to address the issue.
And while the issue is far from resolved, Silva is already talking about a possible rematch with Diaz, who he defeated in a unanimous decision.
"I think this is bad for the sport, it's so bad for me and my life, and I used nothing for change my performance in the fight," the MMA fighting legend told TMZ.
"When my commission say done, I go back to fight. I think have the rematch for Nick. I expect the commission now, when all this done, I go fight Nick for next one."
Following a string of its fighters testing positive for performance enhancing drugs, the UFC tested all fighters that competed in UFC 184"”the first time the promotion has done so in its history.
