Anderson Silva Steroid Use News: 'The Spider' Maintains Innocence via Instagram Post
Because of the multiple continuations his lawyer has filed, former UFC Middleweight champion Anderson Silva has yet to face the Nevada Athletic Commission to address his two failed drug tests. He does, however, maintain his innocence. And most recently, he did so through Instagram.
"About my doping case, I'm waiting for the commission and my lawyers," Silva wrote on the social media platform as translated by MMAFighting's Guilherme Cruz. "I'm not a cheater and I never had a juiced body. Just watch my fights in Japan, when I fought at 176 pounds because there was no 185 division, and the guys I fought cut from 220 to 207. So for the "experts,' go search the real facts."
"I apologize to my followers and fans that give me strength and criticize me with the intention to help me instead of bringing me down, because I don't want you to think that I'm being rude with you. I'm just tired of listening to lies and false accusations. I don't live in a glass case, I'm not a saint and I never said I was the best. I always did what I love with truth, without overshadowing and lying to anyone. Unfortunately, I can't please everybody because I'm not and I don't wanna be unanimous."
For now, Silva is scheduled to go face the NAC at the commission's monthly meeting in June.
Silva initially tested positive in a Jan. 9 out-of-competition drug test related to his UFC 183 fight with Nick Diaz, where his results showed metabolic traces of anabolic steroids Drostanolone and Androstane.
His next test in Jan. 19 was clean, but he tested positive again for Drostanolone, along two benzodiazepine class drugs, Oxazepam and Temazepam, which are normally used to treat anxiety-related insomnia.
As MMAFighting notes, Silva has never tested positive for banned substances in his nearly two-decade career.
