‘An Inconvenient Truth' Movie News: Sundance Premiere Confirmed

Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth" sequel will reportedly premiere during the opening night of the Sundance festival next month.

"Now more than ever we must rededicate ourselves to solving the climate crisis," Al Gore said in a statement. "But we have reason to be hopeful; the solutions to the crisis are at hand. I'm deeply honored and grateful that Paramount Pictures and Participant Media have once again taken on the task of bringing the critical story of the climate crisis to the world."

When "An Inconvenient Truth" was released in 2006, it really trained the spotlight on climate change, which was the first step toward finding some solutions. It also debuted in Sundance back then just like the "An Inconvenient Truth" sequel now.

It was both a commercial and critical success. After grossing almost $50 million in the box-office-an amazing number for a documentary-it also grabbed the best documentary feature and best original song at the Oscars.

The "An Inconvenient Truth" sequel is directed by Bonnie Cohen and Jon Shenk, and it will continue the theme of the first docu feature as Al Gore will lay down new evidence of the dangers of climate change.

Jeff Skoll, executive producer of Participant Media, added that a decade after the first docu, they are now giving an update on climate change.

He said, "One human's quest to awaken global consciousness about our changing planet, we are proud to bring global audiences a promising update: that a future powered by clean, safe, renewable, inexpensive, non-polluting energy is no longer a dream but a very attainable reality."

"An Inconvenient Truth" sequel will premiere on Jan. 19.
