'American Horror Story' Season 5 Spoilers, Cast News: Jessica Lange Leaves FX Series
Actress Jessica Lange, who portrayed the character of Elsa Mars in 'American Horror Story: Freak Show,' has announced that she is quitting the horror television series on FX.
Speaking at the American Horror Story PaleyFest Panel recently, she said, "We've had a great run here. I mean, I absolutely love doing these four characters, and in all the madness, I love the writers and Ryan (Murphy) and the insanity of shooting it."
According to Latin Post, 65-year-old Lange has won two Emmys, a Golden Globe and a SAG award for her performance in the 'American Horror Story,' a spooky and stylish television series.
Deadline reports that the actress told her fans at the DolbyTheatre that it was she the one who actually suggested Ryan Murphy, the show's creator and producer, to set the 'American Horror Story: Freak Show' at a carnival. She said, "I always loved the idea of a carnival and traveling troupe. I remember going to dusty small town carnivals as a child and seeing these freak shows. No live freaks, but weird things."
During her time on the 'American Horror Story,' Lange has been allowed to portray a wide range of characters. In fact, Lange starred in the show for four seasons, during which she portrayed the characters of a Southern belle in, a nun, a head witch, and a German carnival ringmaster. In her last season, Lange also got an opportunity to do a sultry cover of the Lana Del Rey song "Gods and Monsters."
Meanwhile, the show creator has announced that Lady Gaga will be joining the remaining cast for the next 'American Horror Story' in October.
However, even this does not seem to be enough to make Lange change her mind and stay on board. When she was asked by a fan whether the addition of Lady Gaga to the series wound persuade her to continue with the show, the actress shot back: "What does that mean?"
