'American Crime Story' Season 3 Cast News: Popular Singer Lady Gaga Tapped To Portray Donatella Versace

Popular pop singer Lady Gaga will debut in "American Crime Story" season 3 as Donatella Versace.

According to reports, the singer-turned-actress, who has been getting more acting roles of late, is set to portray the fashion designer in the upcoming season of the drama.

"American Crime Story" season 3 will center on the murder of label founder Gianni Versace in his home in Miami Beach in 1997. Its content will be largely based on Maureen Orth's novel, "Vulgar Favours."

Executive producer Ryan Murphy revealed at the Entertainment Weekly's Pop Fest that the upcoming season will explore how serial killer Andrew Cunanan managed to get away with being unnoticed when he committed the crime.

"I was always very moved and freaked out by the Versace assassination, and I thought it was a really great story to do because it's a manhunt season. Serial killer Andrew Cunanan killed four people and then Versace, and was on the loose. We're exploring the reasons of how he got away with being undetected," he said.

Reports about season 3 also claim that an A-list actor has been tapped to portray the role of Gianni's sister.

Recently, Lady Gaga launched her fifth studio album "Joanne." She is set to perform at the 2017 Super Bowl and will be part of the "A Star is Born" remake, along with Bradley Cooper.

"American Crime Story" season 2 will center on Hurricane Katrina. Season 3 will air shortly after the season 2 finale. Both seasons will simultaneously start production next year.
