'American Crime Story' Cast News: Actor John Travolta Joins New FX Series
The ever growing cast of FX network's anthology series, 'American Crime Story', has just added John Travolta to the first season. The first season will be based on Jeffrey Toobin's best-selling book, 'The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson', and will be called 'American Crime Story: The People Vs. O.J. Simpson'.
This will generally be the show's premise in focusing on big true crime events throughout American history, a different one every season.
The news of Travolta's casting takes many by surprise as he hasn't been on a television series in more than 35 years. The actor has also snagged a spot as a producer for the show.
"The movie star famously launched his career with his breakthrough role as Vinnie Barbarino on the hit 70s sitcom 'Welcome Back Kotter'. Since the series ended in 1979, he's only had a handful of guest appearances on the small screen, most recently when he starred on his pal Kirstie Alley's TV Land series last year," writes NY Daily News.
Beyond that, The Hollywood Reporter also provided a short synopsis on what we can expect from the crime drama's 10-episode run:
"The 10-episode first season examines the Simpson trial as told from the perspective of the lawyers and is poised to explore the chaotic behind-the-scenes dealings and maneuvering on both sides of the court. More significantly, it will display how a combination of prosecution confidence, defense wiliness and the LAPD's history with the city's African-American community gave a jury what it needed: reasonable doubt."
Travolta will appear as Robert Shapiro, described as a key member of O.J's "Dream Team." Reported to be starring along side the actor will be Cuba Gooding Jr. as O.J. Simpson, Sarah Paulson as Marcia Clark, and David Schwimmer as Robert Kardashian.
As it stands, production for the show is expected to start this spring in Los Angeles.
