'American Crime Story' Cast News: John Travolta to Play Lawyer Robert Shapiro in New FX Series

It has recently been confirmed that 'American Crime Story: The People v. O.J Simpson' will feature John Travolta as defense attorney Robert Shapiro.

On that note, Travolta is also a producer for the series, which has ten episodes. 'American Crime Story' will showcase the trial of NFL star Simpson who was accused of murdering his former wife Nicole Brown and waiter Ronald Goldman, but was eventually acquitted.

The murder case, which lasted for a year was highly publicized by Simpson's attempted escape in his white vehicle to Southern California. The suspect was chased by the police and he surrendered at his Brentwood home.

The show will narrate its story through the viewpoints of the lawyers and will be based on the book by Jeffrey Toobin entitled 'The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson'.

According to the statement of television channel FX, the miniseries will detail "the chaotic behind-the-scenes dealings and maneuvering on both sides of the court, and how a combination of prosecution overconfidence, defense shrewdness, and the LAPD's history with the city's African-American community gave the jury what it needed: reasonable doubt."

The compelling story that will premiere this year is written by 'American Crime Story' executive producers Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski. On a side note, the show will be directed by Ryan Murphy.

It will also star David Schwimmer as the defense lawyer Robert Kardashian, Cuba Gooding Jr. will play as Simpson and Sarah Paulson will portray as the prosecution lawyer.

This is Travolta's comeback role on television after he starred in the 1975 to 1979 sitcom 'Welcome Back Kotter'. The actor is also busy with big screen roles for a string of movies that will be released in the coming months.

Travolta will star in 'Life of the Line' and 'In the Valley of Violence'. He will also be one of the voices for the animated film 'Gummy Bear the Movie'.
