‘American Crime Story' Cast News, Air Date: Cuba Gooding Jr. and Sarah Paulson to Play Lead Roles
New reports have revealed that Cuba Gooding Jr. will play O.J. Simpson in FX's 'American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson', while Sarah Paulson of 'American Horror Story' will play prosecutor Marcia Clark.
The first installment of the new anthology miniseries created by Ryan Murphy will look at the O.J. Simpson trial from the perspective of the lawyers, exploring the behind-the-scenes dealings and maneuvering of both the defense and the prosecution.
The mini series is based on a book by Jeffrey Toobin called 'The Run of His Life: The People vs. O.J. Simpson'.
It will chronicle the story of the football star-turned-murder defendant following the death of his wife Nicole Brown Simpson.
According to a press release, the miniseries will also reveal "how a combination of prosecution confidence, defense willingness, and the LAPD's history with the city's African-American community gave a jury what it needed: reasonable doubt."
Each season of the 'American Crime Story' will focus on a different real-life crime story that made it to the headlines.
Beside Murphy, Variety reported that other creators of the show include Brad Falchuk, Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Scott Alexander, Larry Karaszewski and Dante Di Loreto.
E! News reports that the production of the show is expected to begin early 2015 in Los Angeles.
At present, Oscar winner Cuba Gooding Jr. is involved in the production of 'The Book of Negroes' TV series, and is part of 'Selma'. Paulson on the other hand, has just recently finished shooting Todd Haynes' most recent film, 'Carol', where she's part of an A-list cast including Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara.
Gooding won an Oscar award in 1996 for his role in 'Jerry Maguire'. He has been part of numerous TV shows including 'Hill Street Blues' and 'Big Time in Hollywood, Fl'.
Meanwhile, Paulson has yet to announce whether her casting in the 'American Crime Story' will mean that she will no longer appear in the fifth season of 'American Horror Story'.
