AMD Zen News: Release Date In Early 2017 Confirmed?
The latest news on the AMD Zen should be a welcome development as the company announced a release date in the first quarter of 2017.
AMD president Lisa Su said the AMD Zen Summit Ridge processor is just a few months away from the release date. The one launching in around January, however, won't be the highly anticipated Summit Ridge.
"You know, I would expect that there will be a relatively good initial demand for Summit Ridge that may be you know, not quite at the seasonal patterns," she said. "From where we see, Summit Ridge is playing in a space in the high-end desktop that we currently aren't offering a product. So we believe we'll be competitive certainly with Core I5 as well as Core I7 and we will be launching in those areas."
PCGamer said the AMD Zen will feature an 8-core and 16-thread processor, and it reportedly outperformed the Intel Broadwell-E with both chips clocking at 3GHz. What's releasing in the second quarter of next year, however, will have 32 cores and 64 threads with 512MB cache. The current line of Intel could not touch that.
In related news, buying an AMD Zen AM3+ motherboards or any computer unit that features the AM3+ motherboard will give you a free copy of "Doom." This is a limited time offer, which will end on Jan. 27 of next year. Once you get the voucher, you only have until Mar. 27 to redeem them.
Watch out for more AMD Zen news, which will be published here when they come along.
