Amal Clooney News, Rumors: Mrs. George Clooney to Teach at Columbia Law School?

Human rights lawyer Amal Clooney, who married actor George Clooney last year, is set to lecture on human rights law at Columbia Law School this spring as a visiting faculty.

According the Business Insider, Amal has not yet been listed as a faculty member on the Columbia Law website or on the school's Human Rights Institute website.

In a statement released by the school Amal said, "It is an honor to be invited as a visiting professor at Columbia Law School alongside such a distinguished faculty and talented student pool. I look forward to getting to know the next generation of human rights advocates studying here."

Amal has an impressive résumé as she served on last year's Enron case, was a senior advisor to Kofi Annan regarding Syria and was selected for a UN three-person commission investigating rules of war violations in the Gaza Strip. She also represented Julian Assange, founder of WikiLeaks in extradition proceedings.

Amal is originally from London. The Lebanese-British lawyer attended a girls' grammar school in Buckinghamshire. She then proceeded to Oxford at the St. Hugh's College where she received an Exhibition scholarship and the Shrigley Award. She graduated Oxford in 2000 and proceeded to move to the U.S. to attend New York University School of Law the following year where she received her LLM.

Louis Henkin professor of human and constitutional rights and faculty co-director of the Human Rights Institute Sarah H. Cleveland said, "We are privileged to have an international human rights practitioner of Amal Clooney's stature join our faculty. Her extensive experience advocating before UN and regional human rights mechanisms complements our existing offerings and will enrich the experience of our students."
