'Alien' News: Sigourney Weaver Says 'Alien vs. Predator' Movie Depressed Her
There are many popular movie titles that have been heralded as classics, and then a unwarranted sequel, reboot, or spin-off comes along to tarnish the name. Ridley Scott's 'Alien' has been recognized as one of those titles.
'Alien vs Predator' combined two properties only to effectively kill both, and while fans were vastly unsatisfied with the product, actress Sigourney Weaver spoke on her disdain for it also at the London Film and Comic-Con.
"I heard that Fox was gonna do Alien vs. Predator, which really depressed me because I was very proud of the movies," she said. "I've nothing against building a movie on a video game, but at the time it was, as Jim Cameron said, I think publicly, 'Why would you want to do that?' It's like making Alien meets the Wolfman."
She went on to even link the movie with Ridley Scott pulling out of the rumored 'Alien' sequel that fans have so desperately wanted.
"In fact Ridley Scott was about to direct a third one, until this was announced, and he dropped out, because he also wanted to do an Alien sequel," she continued. "I'm so excited about Neill -- because Neill is like you guys! He broke the tapes of these movies when he was a kid, he watched them so much. I love the fact that's Neill's fulfilling his childhood dream of what he hopes will be the popcorn movie, the Alien popcorn movie that he wanted as a kid to see."
Weaver is to reprise her role in the sequel as Lt. Ellen Ripley.
