'Alien' New Sequel News, Rumors: Film Franchise May Disregard Last Two Series Films

The 'Alien' sequel seems be the most anticipated sci-fi horror project, due to the iconic impression the original has left on the genre.

Fans are all still very curious as to what they can expect from director Neill Blomkamp's adaptation, as all they've had to go on so far is some very obscure concept art.

We've also got word that Sigourney Weaver will be back to reprise her role as Ellen Ripley, and in a recent interview with Sky Movies, the actress and director has some interesting words on how they plan to play out the ending.

Weaver implies that the film will give her character Ripley a "proper ending".

"I want this film to feel like it is literally the genetic sibling of 'Alien,'" says Blomkamp. "So it's 'Alien,' 'Aliens' and then this movie."

This statement leaves fans to believe that the director plans to abandon the continuity of the last two films, 'Alien 3' and 'Alien: Resurrection'.

"Coupled with the fact that Michael Biehn's Corporal Dwayne Hicks appeared in the previously-released concept art (check it out in the gallery viewer below), it's beginning to look like Blomkamp's plans for the new film will rewrite the canon of the franchise," writes Comingsoon.

On that note, no release date for the sequel has been disclosed as of yet.
