'Alien 5' Release Date News: Film Will Not Linked In With 'Alien 3' And 'Resurrection'

The hype surrounding "Alien 5" just keeps on evolving as it gets closer to its premiere date next year.

Last year, "District 9" director Blomkamp revealed that he would develop an "Aliens" sequel that would see the return of Weaver, Michael Biehn and the other characters who got killed off in "Alien 3." His revelation led to speculations that the new film would disregard the third and fourth films in the trilogy, "Alien 3" and "Alien: Resurrection." Everything was a speculation until Weaver made the confirmation herself.

In an interview last April, actress Sigourney Weaver said she would be really surprised if Neill Blomkamp's vision would never materialize. Just recently, Weaver was back to drop the bomb and confirm that "Alien 5" was already in the works and would not link in with "Alien 3" and "Resurrection."

"It's just as if, you know, the path forks and one direction goes off to three and four and another direction goes off to Neill's movie," she told Entertainment Weekly.

"I always wanted to complete this story and it wasn't really until Neill and I started talking that I said, 'This is why we waited however many years it's been,'" she added.

Now that the major speculation about "Alien 5" has already been confirmed, fans expect Weaver to drop more details about the film at the upcoming Comic-Con, in line with the 30th anniversary celebration of the 1986 film "Aliens."

The actress will be joined by "Aliens" director James Cameron and the cast and crew to answer questions about the much anticipated film. The convention will be held in San Diego, Calif., on July 23.
