‘Alien 5' News, Rumors: Neill Blomkamp Hints Newt; Jennifer Lawrence Possibly Plays Role, If Not Carrie Henn?

In line with Neill Blomkamp's upcoming sci-fi film "Alien 5," the director has released a concept art of another fan favorite character - Newt - who can be played by a new actress.

On Apr. 26, Blomkamp took to Instagram a concept image of Newt, one of the fan favorite characters in the "Alien" film franchise. In caption, he wrote "Alien day."

According to Cinema Blend, Newt's appearance in Blomkamp's "Alien 5" is set to answer questions fans had, after the character was placed into cryo-sleep, along with Hicks and Ripley. The latter two are also survivors of the perilous operation that transpired in James Cameron's "Aliens" in 1986.

Played by Carrie Henn in Cameron's "Aliens," Newt was killed, along with Hicks when their escape pod crashed on Fiorina 161, also known as Fury. As per the publication, this part of the storyline maddened a number of "Aliens" fans, as it was a long span of time to introduce Newt as a sort of Ripley's surrogate daughter and develop her as the film's character overtime.

If Henn is not playing Newt, Fox is set to find another actress to fill in the role. One possibility is Jennifer Lawrence, as she has already completed her "The Hunger Games" film saga, as well as Bryan Singer's "X-Men: Apocalypse." The actress is assumed to be suitable for the role if she is no longer having future "X-Men" film projects.

"Alien 5" stars Sigourney Weaver, who is known for her roles in "Alien" in 1979, 1986, and 1992 and "Avatar," along with Michael Biehn, who is known for his roles in "Aliens," "The Terminator," "The Abyss," and "The Rock." Exact details on the film plot, additional characters, and cast members are yet to be revealed.

Blomkamp's "Alien 5" is slated to premiere in theaters in the United States in 2017.
