'Alien 5' News: Movie To Explore The Motivations Of The Dreaded Xenomorphs

One of the major highlights of Comic-Con 2016 was the celebration of the 30th anniversary of "Aliens."

In attendance in the anniversary conference were James Cameron, Sigourney Weaver, Bill Paxton and other cast members of the sci-fi classic who came together to share some of their fondest memories while making the film.

As the discussion progressed, the talk turned to "Alien 5," which is Neill Blomkamp's sequel to "Alien" and "Aliens." Early this month, the filmmaker confirmed that the upcoming sequel intends to split away from the events of "Alien 3" and "Alien Resurrection"

According to Weaver, months after he completed "Chappie," Blomkamp sent him his proposed script for "Alien 5."

"Four months later I got a script that was so amazing and gives the fans everything they are looking for, plus innovates in a lot of ways," said Weaver. However, he confirmed that the sequel will not appear just yet, since "Alien: Covenant" is set to come first.

Speaking about "Alien 5," Weaver said, "It's a great story and it's satisfying to me to give this woman an ending."

He also teased that the film will explore the motivations of the xenomorphs themselves.

"The script itself has so much in it that's so original, but also really satisfies the, I would say, the primal needs of the aliens. It's a tribute to all of the great work that the other directors have done, in a way, but goes in a completely new direction. I hope we'll do it," he said.
