AirAsia Flight QZ8501 Missing Latest News Update: Airplane Vanishes with 162 Passengers Onboard
On the morning of December 28th, 2014, an airbus was flying over the Java Sea to Singapore vanished into thin air, inciting panic from airline operators and family members of the loved ones on board. The plane, AirAsia A320, was carrying 162 people.
That fateful morning, Airbus A320-200 was on a flight to Singapore when it flew into air turbulence and dark skies. The aircraft was cleared by aviation technicians, and so it was completely safe and functional. Nevertheless, the experienced pilot recognized the dangers of an impending storm, and asked for permission to ascend 6,000 feet to avoid the clouds.
However, a few moments later, the plane disappeared.
Indonesia deployed seven aircrafts, four navy ships and six boats to search for the AirAsia Jet #QZ8501. Meanwhile, the AirAsia owner, President Sunu Widyatmoko, made the relatives of the passengers on board his first priority. "That's something more important for us, for our crew's families and passengers' families, we will look after them," he said in a statement to the press.
As Indonesia and the airline investigated the possible reasons for the plane's disappearance, AirAsia confirmed the flight experience of the crew. Two pilots, four flight attendants and one engineer were on board the flight.
Indonesia's national search and rescue agency, Basarnas, speculates that the disappearance was due to the inclement weather. Apparently, the plane was never approved to ascend below the clouds, and five minutes after the pilot's inquiry, the plane vanished from the radar.
Singapore's Changi Airport is providing care to 47 relatives and friends of the passengers aboard the missing flight in the Relatives' Holding Area. Next of kin for the remaining passengers have been alerted of the tragic circumstances.
