'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' News: Spin-Off Series Picked Up By ABC
The rumored spin-off 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' project that was referenced earlier this year has finally been ordered for a pilot by ABC along with the reveal of some details.
The spin-off will be titled 'Marvel's Most Wanted' and will focus on the Mockingbird character from the original show portrayed by Adrianne Palicki, along with Nick Blood's Lance Hunter character.
"Insiders say the series is not a spinoff, per se, but rather an entirely new project solely focused on the two characters to continue their story. Though plot details are scarce at this point, "Marvel's Most Wanted" will follow the pair and their adventures together," writes Variety.
'SHIELD' producers Jeffrey Bell and Paul Zbyszewski will serve as showrunners and executive producers along with Marvel's head of television, Jeph Loeb.
There are currently no plans on how ABC will present the show or when it will air, but the spin-off won't disrupt the continuity of the current series.
"An "Agents of SHIELD" offshoot was originally reported in April, but was soon after shot down with the network deciding not to move forward. However, during New York Upfronts this spring, ABC president Paul Lee alluded to the possibility of the series being resurrected, teasing, "It certainly is a possibility of spinning them off," cites Variety.
"We absolutely love those characters on 'SHIELD,'" Lee added.
'SHIELD' plans to return for its third season later this year, along with a second season of 'Agent Carter,' giving ABC a full plate this coming year.
