‘Agent Carter' Update: Hayley Atwell Hints Season 3 Possibilities; Low Ratings Biggest Obstacle
Aside from talks that "Agent Carter" season 2 was set to be the last entry in the series, lead actress Hayley Atwell has voiced thoughts that a season 3 is in fact possible.
Atwell plays the role of the iconic super agent Agent Carter on the small screen TV series. In an interview with Comic Book Resources before the show's finale, Atwell said that there was a chance, from what she knew, if both shows got picked up, she would be doing both. The lead actress added that until she knew one way or the other, she would not jump neither for joy nor grief.
With "Agent Carter" season 3 remaining uncertain at this point, Atwell told Den of Geek that the main thing she did now was to cherish the memory of the two seasons, which she described as "incredibly fulfilling and fun work."
The actress also gives credit to James D'Arcy and Dominic Cooper, whom has come to be her friends which she still speaks to.
Following the finale of "Agent Carter" season 2, Atwell has announced that she has signed on to headline the new ABC pilot "Conviction," where she will be playing the role of a young attorney who heads the newly established Conviction Integrity Unit, which scrutinizes cases involving people who have been falsely convicted of crime.
According to Comic Book Resources, "Agent Carter" is set to close with season 2, as the rating of series was reportedly unimpressive. The publication writes that the season two finale, which aired opposite Super Tuesday's news coverage, only pulled 2.37 million viewers and a 0.7 demo overnight rating.
At this point, fans may not see Atwell as a secret agent for the Strategic Scientific Reserve in "Agent Carter," but she could be seen as a young lawyer in "Conviction."
