Academy of Country Music Awards 2013: Taylor Swift Shut Out, Miranda Lambert & Co-Host Luke Bryan Win Big!
The 48th annual Academy of Country Music Awards aired last night on CBS hosted by Blake Shelton and Luke Bryan. This was Bryan's first time to host while veteran Shelton co-hosted last year with country legend, Reba McEntire.
Eric Church led the 2013 ACM Awards nominees with seven nods, including Male Vocalist of the Year and Album of the Year, for his platinum-selling, critically-acclaimed Chief. In second with 6 nominations is Hunter Hayes and by Miranda Lambert and Taylor Swift with five nominations apiece.
Even with 5 nominations, Taylor Swift came away with no awards for the night. Many had wondered how her album RED would do with country music awards since it has been a clearly focused Pop record. So despite its popularity, the ACM voters at least have spoken that they want to honor other stars with more country records.
Miranda Lambert had a big night winning 3 awards including, Female Vocalist of the Year. This marked her fourth consecutive win for Lambert in that category.
Luke Bryan was the surprising winner of the biggest award of the night, Entertainer of the Year. Bryan was overcome with emotion when he got to the podium to accept the award and had to fight back tears to get through his speech. It was a great moment to see a star have so much shock and humility over a win.
Jason Aldean took home the award for Male Vocalist of the Year.
The show maybe had the most performances ever for an awards show including music from numerous country stars, including Kenny Chesney, Brad Paisley, Carrie Underwood, Jewel, Kelly Clarkson, Lady Antebellum, Little Big Town, and The Band Perry. Other artists that made special performances were John Mayer, Sheryl Crow and Stevie Wonder.
Some big-name CBS guest presenters included Kaley Cuoco from "The Big Bang Theory," Beth Behrs from "Two Broke Girls," and Michael Chiklis from "Vegas."
