The R&B genre is a style of music that combines elements of rhythm and blues, soul, funk, pop, hip-hop, and dance. BreatheCast has put together a list of four popular R&B artists that have added Gospel to that list.

MONICA

Singer Monica started off by singing in the church and then went on to receive international success. In an interview on the Yolanda Adams morning show, a couple of years ago, Monica explained where she is now and why she sings secular music although she is saved.

"What I've learned with our youth and the generation we've come from they are willing to listen if you don't use certain terms," she said. She added that with certain songs she has been able to bring "people to God without intimidating them with scriptures and quotes."

 "I took four years off, I don't mind stepping away," she said, "my family is a priority and my relationship with God is a priority."

FAITH EVANS

Faith Evans is known for being an R&B diva and former wife of rapper Biggie Smalls, but the singer dove into the Gospel world recently with a new song with Dr. Bobby Jones called "Rejoice With Me."

"I've always been a fan of Gospel music and Dr. Bobby Jones", Evans said in an interview, "And one day I just got a call asking if I would be on the song and I just started screaming!!!"

MONTELL JORDAN

Montell Jordan came into the mainstream music scene in the mid 90's with his No. 1 smash hit "This Is How We Do It," and then went on to write some of the biggest R&B songs of the 90s.

However, in 2010 Jordan left the music business to become a worship leader at Victory World Church and in early 2011, Jordan soon released a Christian album.

MARIAH CAREY
Multiplatinum recording artist Mariah Carey has touched the hearts of many with her emotional tunes, but she too has a Gospel feeling.

The singer has credited her Christian faith with helping her recover from a breakdown after the failure of her 2002 album Glitter. Carey's husband Nick Cannon has also said in several interviews that faith helped them overcome together.

On Carey's latest album Me. I Am Mariah...The Elusive Chanteuse, the singer showcases "Heavenly (No Ways Tired / Can't Give Up Now)" a passionate gospel number encouraging those listening to not give up. Listen Below:
