'22 Jump Street' New Movie News: Directors Say Montage 'Sequels are Canon'
The end of '22 Jump Street' poked fun at the franchise's aptitude to produce a sequel by producing this montage of fake sequel ideas such as 23 Jump Street: Medical School, 27 Jump Street: Culinary School, 31 Jump Street: Ninja Academy, and much more. While this was meant to serve as a joke, a recent statement from directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller suggest this to not be.
At a panel for their show, 'Last Man on Earth,' the two stated that the fake ideas could be canon.
"We've found a way that we love that makes those imagined sequels canonical and yet does something that we haven't told you about yet," Lord said, "The sequels are canon."
It's not suspected that the directors planned or this the entire time, however with the two movie's overwhelming success, the idea of continuing it somehow has become more appealing.
This statement coincides with a statement Lord made in an interview last month with MTV.
"Rodney Rothman is off writing a script," Lord said, "He had a really outrageous idea for what to do, and how we could take our scorched-earth sequel policy from the end of '22 Jump Street' and do something that hadn't been explored in those 22 sequels and simultaneously tell the next chapter in the story."
