2016 Presidential Campaign News: Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal Announces Presidential Run
Louisiana Governor, Bobby Jindal, says that he wants to trade the Governor's mansion for the White House.
The Republican politician announced that he will be running for president in 2016, joining the hordes of candidates ready to be President Barack Obama's replacement. Jindal announced his intentions during an event which took place on June 24th.
While speaking in Kenner, a suburb of New Orleans, Jindal spoke about his track record as governor.
He highlighted his reform of the ethic laws in the state, as well as in education and medical laws.
He also challenged the federal government, saying that he accomplished "what they said could not be done" by shrinking Louisiana's government. Before his event, he announced his candidacy on Twitter, sharing the following tweet: "I'm running for President of the United States of America."
He also added links to videos on his official website. In the videos, he broke the news of his campaign to his family.
His event was not quite as entertaining as Donald Trump's. Jindal has a lot to face, as there are already twelve other major Republican candidates in the race, and he is polling behind all of them, only getting one percent of support from Republicans, according to the Washington Post.
Jindal joins former governors, Jeb Bush, Mike Huckabee, George Pataki and Rick Perry. He is also joined by Rick Santorum, Rand Paul, Lindsey Graham, Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, Donald Trump, Carly Fiorina, and Dr. Ben Carson.
On the democratic side, there are fewer candidates, most notably, former first lady, Hillary Clinton.
