2015 NBA All-Star Weekend News: Allan Houston Legacy Foundation Hosts Family All-Star Jam Event
The NBA All-Star Weekend 2015 took place in New York City and held its first annual Family All-Star Jam event hosted by the Allan Houston Legacy Foundation.
The legacy foundation of former Knicks player and two-time NBA All-Star Allan Houston joined forces with SoleXchange to present the All-Star Family Jam and SoleXchange Sneaker Show. The foundation took advantage of the basketball game to convey a very substantial message to all the basketball fans.
"We really want to have something fun where we can bring families and kids together but have it really entertaining, so we can come away with inspiration but have fun with it. The goal is to make a purposeful day fun." Houston said to CBN News.
The fun and interactive All-Star event aims to connect the families and the youth in a positive and high energy spirit. The event provided a very good opportunity to empower and strengthen family relationships.
"My father and I noticed the problem with fatherless homes across the board. Then one day it came to mind, FISLL, that is an acronym of faith, integrity, sacrifice, leadership and legacy. We developed a curriculum around it (and) now we're doing these events." Houston explained.
Pastor John Gray of Lakewood Church was the presenter of the event. He believes that "to be relevant of today's culture, Christians have to share the Word in an unoffensive way that doesn't turn people off from listening."
The All-Star event incorporated special performances by Andy Mineo and appearances by John Gray, Steve Jamison and Pastor Carl Lentz, other NBA players and celebrities, and basketball demonstrations.
"I think in today's society we are dealing with an epidemic of fatherless homes. We're turning everywhere else for people to be fathered. We're looking to music, rap stars, or athletes. The whole point of the event is to push men to take responsibilities to be who God created them to be"¦faithful men," Hip Hop artist Andy Mineo said.
Pastor Carl Lentz, who is reaching out to other NBA players said, "God says he is able to do far more than you can ever ask or imagine or dream, so we're believing that what you see here today - maybe you can have a convention; maybe you could be an All-Star."
