2015 MTV Video Music Awards News: Miley Cyrus to Host Awards on August 30
The "Wrecking Ball" singer announced on Monday that she will be hosting the MTV Video Music Awards this year. The announcement came as a surprise to many, as this year she will not be performing at the Awards ceremony.
IB Times reports that Cyrus tweeted photographs of her in a hooded green alien costume wearing a sandwich board on Monday and the first photo was accompanied with the caption, "MTV won't let me perform." In another photograph, the singer appeared somewhat excited and was accompanied by a message saying, "So I'm hosting this year's VMAs."
According to E! Online, the former "Hannah Montana" star, who gained notoriety in 2013, when she twerked all the way on stage with Robin Thicke, seemingly increased the show's ratings.
In 2014, the singer yet stole the VMAs again and Cyrus' mystery date Jesse accepted the award for Video of the Year for "Wrecking Ball."
Billboard reported, Jesse took the time in the spotlight, but did not thank Cyrus' fans or speak of the award. Instead, the young man's address referred to the alarming 1.6 million homeless children and teenagers in the U.S. He told the star-studded crowd, "I've been an extra in your movies, I've been an extra in your lives," adding, "Los Angeles has the largest population of homeless youth in America."
As Jesse concluded his speech with a famous John Lennon/Yoko Ono quote, "A dream you dream alone is only a dream, but a dream we dream together is reality," the Cyrus was seen ecstatic and teary-eyed, watching him in the midst of the audience.
Considering her performance in the last two years, fans of the "Can't Be Tamed" singer can expect another thrilling act from the host.
The 2015 MTV Video Music Awards will air live at 9:00 pm EDT on Aug. 30 from the Microsoft Theater, Los Angeles. Nominations for the awards will be released at 10:00 am on Tuesday, while voting will begin at 11;00 am.
