2014 Heisman Trophy Winner Marcus Mariota Reveals Strong Faith in Jesus Christ Prior to Upcoming NFL Draft

Oregon Ducks QB Marcus Mariota expressed how his devout Christian faith impacted his daily life before he became the latest winner of the prestigious Heisman Trophy.

The Oregon junior athlete revealed that his faith in God grew immensely after he started attending Oregon University a few years ago.

"...In high school, I learned about God and Jesus Christ, but I wasn't really invested in it. I think coming here I got involved with FCA and [Fellowship of Christian Athletes'] Tony [Overstake] and it really introduced me into my walk and into my journey. I'm not perfect, but I'm encouraged everyday to continue to open up in my faith," said Mariota to Fellowship of Christian Athletes Magazine in a recent interview.

"I've learned that no matter what, my faith will guide me. However I play on the field, I know my faith will guide me. After sports, my faith will guide me. As I've grown in my faith, that's something that's given me comfort. God has taught me that I can trust in Him. No matter what-whether things are good or bad-I know I can always trust in Him. And that has really allowed me to go All In for Him."

The 21-year-old Honolulu, Hawaii native won the aforementioned award that is given to the most outstanding player in college football annually.

"I'm humbled to be standing here today. I had to give thanks to so many people because where I am today, it's all due to those people," said Mariota to the audience after he won the 2014 Heisman Trophy on December 13.

"It's hard not to get emotional. It's been a long journey. My emotions got the best of me."

The upcoming NFL Draft will begin on April 30 and end on May 2, 2015 at the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University in Chicago, Illinois.

Meanwhile, Mariota and his Oregon Ducks will battle last year's Heisman winner Florida State Seminoles Jameis Winston and his squad in the much anticipated Rose Bowl Game presented on Jan. 1, at 5 pm ET on the ESPN network.

"When I relentlessly pursue Christ, I put all my faith in Him to be able to play well and lead my team. With His power, we are able to pursue and play for His glory. We want to go out and show the world that Christ lives," said Mariota to Fellowship of Christian Athletes Magazine last year.
