'19 Kids and Counting' News: Show Officially Canceled. Duggars are 'Heartbroken'

It has recently been confirmed that the hit TLC show, 19 Kids and Counting, featuring the Duggar family, has been officially canceled. When the news hit, apparently the Duggars were more disappointed than anyone.

A source who worked closely with the family discussed their sentiments in a statement made to People magazine.

The cancellation came two months after the information surfaced that the family's eldest son, Josh Duggar, had been accused of molesting five underage girls, two of whom were his sisters, Jill Dillard and Jessa Seewald, at the age of 14.

Duggar issued an apology shortly after a 2006 police report containing this information surfaced, saying that he had "acted inexcusably".

According to the source, the family, who is of the evangelical Christian faith, has said that they are "heartbroken", because they often discussed their religious beliefs on the show and feel that they have lost a major medium through which they could have spread their beliefs.

"Duggars want to return to TV because they truly believe it was part of God's plan for them to spread the word about their faith," said the source. "I think Jim Bob and Michelle honestly did expect people to just move on from this. Their thinking is, they put this behind them ages ago, so why wouldn't the rest of the world?"

Now that 19 Kids and Counting is off the air, the Duggars will likely follow the pattern of Kate Gosselin, whose show was canceled in 2011 after a highly publicized break up with her husband, Josh Gosselin.
