'19 Kids and Counting' News: Duggar Family Gets Backlash for Christmas Photo
Fans of '19 Kids and Counting' were excited to learn that their favorite reality TV family went ahead and posted some pictures of their Christmas celebrations over social media. On Christmas morning, the Duggars shared their love for Jesus with pictures of their children.
Josh, 26, described the holiday in the '19 Kids and Counting' household as, "The true spirit and true meaning of Christmas is really what our lord and savior Jesus Christ has done for us."
But when the reality television stars, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, posted a Christmas picture of their teenage son on their Facebook page, they were unprepared for the backlash that would follow.
In the picture, the 16-year-old smiling Jedidiah grasps a 12 gauge shotgun. Fans and followers of the Christian family took sides on the gun debate that day.
One fan, Linda Lawless, was disgusted by the photograph and the message it sent. "Worst present ever," Linda wrote, "All it takes is one time of not locking it up properly for one of the dozens of curious young kids in that house to get a hold of it and have an accident."
On the other side of the debate, fans like Kelly Woodrow James pointed out the need for guns. "Guns are for survival and protection," Kelly said, "It is our God given right to bare arms. There is nothing wrong with giving a child a gun as long as the responsibility of owning the gun is taught as well."
In the state of Arkansas, children are legally permitted to use a gun with the consent of a guardian.
Jim Bob, for one, is happy to present his son this gift. In a statement to Radar Online, Jim Bob said, "We believe it is important for children to learn safety about guns and knives to learn how to use them properly."
