'16 & Pregnant' Renewal News: MTV Series Set to Return for Season 6
The date of the Season 6 premiere of '16 & Pregnant', which airs on television network MTV, has not yet been released, but it has been confirmed that a sixth installment of the show is set to air.
With the sixth season of the show, producers are making some changes. There will still be the usual antics of teenage mothers trying to balance adolescence with parenthood, yet the show seems to be trying to inject new life into the series.
MTV is taking a cue from its sister show, 'Teen Mom', and will now use its episode format for '16 & Pregnant'. In the past, '16 & Pregnant' has followed four different teenage mothers, flip-flopping between the lives of each throughout the show. Now, each episode will be dedicated to only one mother, with each individual teenager getting their own hour-long spotlight on the show each week.
With both '16 & Pregnant' and 'Teen Mom', MTV aims to spread their message of preventing teenage pregnancy. While the shows are entertaining, they are meant to showcase the hardships of the young mothers and help educate teenagers about unprotected sex. In a recent study, it was revealed that the hit television shows have prevented about 20,000 teen pregnancies. The show hopes to continue opening the door for teenage girls and others to address the issue and discuss birth control.
Time will tell if the new format of '16 & Pregnant' satisfies viewers. There is definitely an advantage to following all four teens in one episode, such as the ability to skip around the different events in each of the girls' lives. Even if the audience is not thrilled with the new format at first, things could pick up. 'Teen Mom' usually sees its viewership increase as the show progresses and the audience learns more about each of the teen mothers.
