12-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display Specs, Features, Price: Hands-On with New Apple Laptop [VIDEO]
Apple Inc. announced the latest version of its MacBook laptop with Retina display at the "Spring Forward" event in San Francisco, California, on Monday.
Latin Post said that the latest 12-inch MacBook is the thinnest as well as the lightest notebook produced the Cupertino-based tech titan so far. The device weighs just two pounds, while it measures about 13.1 mm where it is thickest. Compared to the 11-inch MacBook Air, the latest device is roughly 24 percent thinner.
Promoting the latest MacBook Retina on the stage, Apple CEO Tim Cook jokingly said, "Can you even see it?"
The features of the new MacBook Pro include high-resolution Retina display rendering over 4 million pixels on the 13?inch model and it packs over 5 million pixels on the 15?inch model. Apple claims that the human eyes are unable to distinguish the individual pixels, as the images have an altogether new level of pragmatism. In fact, the 2560x1600 resolution on the 13?inch MacBook Pro and 2880x1800 resolution on the 15?inch MacBook Pro create such sharp text that users will feel as if they are reading text on a printed page.
In contrast, the 13?inch MacBook Pro with Retina display has roughly 2 million additional pixels compared to an HDTV.
The Retina display has two important features - glare reduction and enhanced sharpness. While the blacks appear blacker, whites whiter and other colors more vibrant owing to the high contrast ratio of Retina display. On account of IPS technology, users can enjoy a 178-degree view of everything on the screen from almost any angle.
According to Cook, "We challenged ourselves to reinvent the notebook. And we did it."
The new device comes with the Force Touch trackpad that enables activities such as swiping or pinching to change apps as well as navigate content. In addition, the 12-inch MacBook will come with connector, called USB-C that will provide power, connectivity as well as video output.
The latest notebook from Apple will be sold in three colors - "space grey," silver and gold.
The base model MacBook is available with a 1.1 Ghz dual-core Intel Core M processor, Intel HD 3500 graphics, 8GB of memory, and a 256GB SSD hard drive.
The MacBook Pro with Retina display will be shipped from April 10 and it has been priced at $1,299. Consumers will also have the option to purchase a $1,599 model with a faster processor and more storage space.
