'X-Men Apocalypse' Release Date, Cast Rumors: Channing Tatum To Play Gambit?
The third, and supposedly, final installment to the X-Men franchise is scheduled to premiere on May 27 in 2016. The franchise is known for habitually casting superstar actors to play the roles of the popular mutants in their films, and this time around, 'X-Men: Apocalypse' will be no different.
Australian action superstar Hugh Jackman will be taking on the role of the invincible mutant, Wolverine, for the 5th time in his career, while 'Hunger Games' actor Jennifer Lawrence will be returning as Mystique for the third time in the film series.
Also joining the cast is Michael Fassbender, who will be playing Magneto for the 3rd time around. During a press conference for his movie 'Frank', Fassbender revealed that X-Men writer Simon Kinberg had told him about very interesting developments in the upcoming Apocalypse storyline during a recent trip to Moscow, but the actor said he cannot disclose information about the conversation.
Fassbender is also said to have tried pitching his own storyline to Kinberg, which reportedly centers around his character, Erik Magneto.
Aside from Jackman, Lawrence, and Fassbender, the 'X-Men: Apocalypse' powerhouse cast include James McAvoy returning as Professor X and Nicholas Hoult returning as Beast (also for the third time), and Evan Peters, on the other hand, returns as Quicksilver for the second time around.
It has already been reported that 'GI Joe: Retaliation' star Channing Tatum will be taking on the titular role of the upcoming film, Gambit, but Marvel officials have not yet confirmed the report.
